| Stud Service Cann-Dee-Apples Cattery offers stud services for persons whose queens have met the following criteria: |
| |
The queen has been immunized against feline rhinotracheitis, panleukopenia, calici virus, and rabies. |
| |
She has been tested for Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS (FIV) within the past month, and she has been found to be negative. |
| |
The vet has checked her for ear mites and fleas and she is not harboring any parasites or ringworm. |
| |
The owner of the queen has provided veterinarian's records to Cann-Dee-Apples Cattery to certify that the above statements are true. |
| |
The queen does not go outdoors, and she is not in contact with other cats that go outdoors, which therefore might carry the above diseases or parasites (fleas, ear mites). |
| |
The queen has had her nails clipped within a week of being brought to Cann-Dee-Apples to be bred. |
| In their experience, Joe and Mary Jo have found that it usually takes a get-acquainted visit of at least a week for the queen to become adjusted to the new sounds and smells of our cattery. During this time, her stress level will be high, she will feel somewhat fearful of her surroundings, and she will not be in the mood to mate. In fact, if she is in heat and is brought to the cattery to be bred, she will often go right out of heat, due to stress. This is especially true if she has never been bred before, or if she is a shy or skittish cat to begin with. Taking this into consideration, Cann-Dee-Apples has implemented a "courtship visit". This is a week or 10 days, during which time the visiting queen is given time to "settle in" and make friends with the stud cat. She is kept in his room, but is not in physical contact with him during the visit. She is provided with a safe place from which she can see, smell and hear the stud cat. She receives a great deal of attention, so that she is comfortable with the breeders as well as with the stud cat. After this visit, she goes back home and will return when she comes into heat. This method of introducing breeding pairs has been successful, and clients agree that it works well. It requires that the owner of the queen plan far ahead in the breeding of their cat, because all of the vet visits, blood tests and the "courtship visit" take at least a month, before the actual mating can be accomplished.
