The Kittens

Cann-Dee-Apples kittens are born in custom-made kittening enclosures. Labor and
delivery take place under 24 - hour supervision in the Cannarella's master bedroom, so
that, whether the kittens arrive during day or night, their birth is known to their breeders
immediately. Mothers and babies are kept in quiet surroundings for the first three
weeks of kittens' lives.
When it is time for the kittens to be out and about in a room, rather than in the kittening
enclosure, they are moved out of the bedroom to the cattery room, which Joe built just
for them. This room is called the cattery porch. It is a beautiful room for kittens and their
mothers. In this room, the kittens can grow and develop. With windows all around, they
have a view of the backyard, with birds and squirrels. The room is furnished with cat
trees, hammocks, and toys for the cats and kittens. They can climb, stalk each other,
jump from level to level, and hide in kitten condos. Kitten playpens with doors open
provide free access to safe places. Window hammocks and cozy plush beds make
good places to curl up and take a nap. The room has environmental controls: heat, air
conditioning and ventilation.
Socialization of young kittens is not left to chance. Kittens are handled frequently and
lovingly several times a day. Mary Jo and Joe know that frequent handling early in a
kitten's life is crucial to their socialization. At 10 weeks, kittens are ready to go to their
new homes. When they leave the cattery, each kitten will have been given the first shots
in a series of three. The kittens are also wormed with Strongid - T, to ensure that there
are no parasites.
When they take a kitten home, each kitten buyer is provided with a kitten pack
consisting of the health record, the veterinarian's certificate of health, a booklet,
"Caring for Your New Kitten", and a sample of the food which the kitten has been
raised on.
Cann-Dee-Apples Cattery has a waiting list. When persons inquire about availability of
kittens, their names are placed on a wait list, if there are no kittens ready to go at the
time of inquiry. Interested persons are invited to make an appointment to visit the
cattery. Because everyone's time is precious, and a visit to the cattery is a sign of
genuine interest, the visit is acknowledged.
